What to Do in Vrbnik in Winter

Žlahtina cellars pour all year, and a stone tasting room on a cliff is better in January than in August.

Vrbnik is the most weather-proof village on Krk, and winter is when that stops being a technicality.

The Žlahtina cellars pour year-round. Gospoja, Kušaona Gospoja and the indigenous-varieties tasting at Šipun all run through the winter, and the rooms they run in are cool stone vaults that are frankly more pleasant in January than in the heat. The historic cellar tour is the one to take if you only take one.

Klančić — reputedly among the narrowest streets in the world — takes about four minutes and is worth them. The cliff-edge viewpoint over the channel is better in winter light than summer haze.

A caution: the village sits on a cliff and the lanes are steep. They are slick after rain and there is no shortcut down.
