# Kijac Beach

> Kijac is Njivice's main bathing beach: a 320-metre arc of fine pebble, holding Blue Flag status, with full facilities and the unusual feature of an attached dog-friendly section. The combination makes it one of the few beaches on Krk where families with dogs can spend a full day without compromise.

## About

Kijac sits in the middle of Njivice's seafront, in the bay below the village's hotels and restaurants. The main bathing area is fine pebble, around 320 metres long and 15 metres wide at average depth, with gradual entry and a uniformly pebble seabed. Water quality earns Blue Flag certification annually thanks to the bay's good circulation.

The key distinction at Kijac is the dog-friendly section: a small extension at the eastern end of the beach where dogs are welcome to swim and rest. Local convention puts dogs on this side and prefers the western half remain dog-free for visitors who'd rather not share. Both sections share the same water and amenities — showers, toilets, changing rooms, lifeguards in peak season, multiple beach bars, and rental loungers + umbrellas. The dog area has its own freshwater rinse station and a separate small entry path so dogs don't track sand across the family side.

The seafront promenade is paved and stroller-friendly, with mature pines providing intermittent shade on the back third of the beach. Several restaurants and ice-cream stands are within 2–3 minutes' walk, and Njivice's village centre is 5 minutes on foot. The Hotel Jadran complex behind the beach gives the area a resort feel — guests have priority on the central lounger blocks but the rest of the beach is fully public.

Njivice itself is one of Krk's smaller coastal villages, roughly half-resort and half-fishing-village. The harbour at the western end of the bay still hosts a small commercial fishing fleet that lands daily catches in the morning. Several restaurants near the harbour buy directly from the fishermen — ask at any of the konobas for 'today's catch' and you'll often get the actual answer rather than a default menu item.

The village has a small daily market (Mon–Sat 7:00–13:00) for produce, a few bakeries that open at 6:00, two pharmacies, and a Konzum supermarket about 5 minutes' walk inland. This combination of beach, dog access, food infrastructure, and proximity to Rijeka airport (25 minutes by car) makes Njivice a popular base for week-long family stays.

Kijac works well for families with mixed needs: kids who want lifeguards and playgrounds nearby, adults who want a Blue Flag swim, and dogs who want to actually swim instead of being banned from the water entirely. It's less wild than the south-coast coves and less photogenic than Haludovo across the bay, but it's reliably comfortable and well-rounded enough to anchor a week-long family stay in northern Krk.

### Is Kijac suitable for very young children?

Yes — gradual pebble entry, calm bay, lifeguards in peak season, and a paved stroller-friendly promenade behind the beach. Pair with the playground a 5-minute walk away in Njivice centre.
