# Redagara (Krk Town dog beach)

> Redagara is the officially designated dog-friendly beach for Krk Town — a small pebble cove on the city's eastern outskirts where dogs are welcome to swim, run, and lounge alongside their owners. Free parking nearby and a freshwater rinse shower make it the most practical dog-beach option on the central part of the island.

## About

Redagara is one of two officially designated dog beaches on Krk (the other being Kijac in Njivice). Designating beaches as dog-friendly is recent island-wide policy; the alternative is the awkward dance of fines and bad looks at the regular swimming areas. Redagara is small but purpose-built: pebble shoreline, gradual entry, no umbrella rental encroachment, and a freshwater rinse shower so dogs and owners can wash off salt before getting into the car.

The beach is roughly 80 metres long, set in a small cove sheltered from the dominant southerly wind. The seabed is even pebble out to swimming depth, comfortable for dog paws and human feet alike. Water clarity is good — typically 4–6 metres of visibility — though it varies with wind direction. The bay opens east, getting morning sun and early afternoon shade from the western cliff — useful in midsummer when concrete-radiated heat from a hotel-adjacent beach would be punishing for thick-coated dogs.

There are no kiosks, beach bars, or rental loungers — by design. The intent is a low-density beach where dogs can enjoy the water without crowding. Most visitors are local Krk Town residents with their dogs; the international tourist crowd rarely makes it here. Even in mid-August it's rare to count more than 15–20 people and 8–10 dogs on the beach at any given time.

Responsible behaviour is required and enforced by occasional municipal patrols: dogs must be under control, owners must clean up, and aggressive dogs should leave. There's a bag dispenser at the entrance and a clear sign in Croatian, English, and German laying out the expectations. Fines for non-compliance are possible but rarely issued — the local culture is self-regulating.

Krk Town's veterinary clinic (a 5-minute drive away in the old town) handles emergencies and routine dog needs in summer. The local pet supply shop opens Mon–Sat 8:00–13:00 and 16:00–19:00 with English-speaking staff. Several Krk Town apartments and small hotels accept dogs for an additional fee — combined with Redagara, this makes Krk Town one of the more dog-tourist-friendly bases on the island.

This is the right beach for travellers visiting Krk with a dog who don't want to drive 25 minutes north to Njivice. It's not the right beach for a long swim day with non-dog-friendly companions in your group; pair it with a regular beach like Jezevac (1 km west along the coast) for a mixed-group day where everyone gets time on a beach that suits them.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Redagara really dog-friendly?

Yes — it's one of two officially designated dog beaches on Krk Island (the other is Kijac in Njivice). Dogs are welcome to swim, run on-leash or off, and rest with owners. Cleaning up and controlling your dog is required.

### Is there a fee for using Redagara?

No, both the beach and the parking are free.

### Are there facilities at Redagara?

There's a freshwater rinse shower and a dog-bag dispenser at the entrance, but no toilets, kiosks, or beach bars. Bring water and snacks for both you and the dog.

### Can I bring multiple dogs?

Yes, with the same expectations — under control, cleaned up after, and not aggressive towards other dogs or people. The beach is small enough that a pack of more than two dogs can disturb other visitors.

### Where else can I take my dog swimming on Krk?

Kijac in Njivice is the other officially designated dog beach. Several remote coves on the south coast (e.g. parts of the trail past Stara Baška) are also dog-friendly by tradition, though without amenities.
