# Basket-Making and Vegetable-Fiber Crafts

> Basket-making (pletarstvo) and related vegetable-fiber crafts on Krk produced essential household and working equipment — baskets of various sizes for agricultural and household use, fish traps (vrše) woven from olive or willow withes, mats and floor coverings, and various other items from local plant materials. The trade operated principally at household scale (most rural families produced at least basic baskets for own use) with some specialist production for trade. Largely displaced by industrial alternatives in the 20th century, the craft persists only in attenuated form among heritage-craft practitioners and occasional traditional-skill demonstrations.
