# Frankopan Castle, Krk Town

> The Frankopan Castle of Krk town — known locally simply as Kaštel — is the principal defensive and residential complex of the Frankopan counts who ruled Krk from the 12th through 15th centuries. Integrated into the seaward corner of Krk town's wall circuit, the castle includes a substantial round tower, residential and administrative ranges, an internal courtyard, and connected gates and towers within the wider wall system. The castle is one of the most visible and well-preserved Frankopan-period structures on Krk and forms with the cathedral the architectural anchor of the historic town.
