# Kaić — The Traditional Small Boat of Krk

> The kaić is the small, open, double-ended wooden rowing-and-sailing boat that defined everyday maritime life on Krk for centuries. Four to seven meters long, built from local pine and oak with a characteristic upturned stem and stern, it served for inshore fishing, island errands, ferrying produce between coves, and Sunday outings to a swimming beach. Nearly every coastal Krk household once had one. Though motorized fiberglass craft have replaced kaići for working purposes, restored examples sail at heritage festivals, hang in village squares as monuments, and sit upturned on slipways as decorative reminders of how the island lived from the sea.
