# Leut — The Adriatic Cargo and Family Sailing Vessel

> The leut is a larger Adriatic wooden sailing vessel, typically 8 to 14 meters long, with two masts (or a single mast with a more complex rig than the gajeta), used for cargo transport between Adriatic islands and ports, for substantial fishing operations, and as a working family vessel. Less common on Krk than the kaić or gajeta but historically present in Punat, Vrbnik, and Šilo for serious cargo work, the leut represents the upper end of small-craft tradition before the boundary into proper coastal sailing ships (bracere, trabakuli) is crossed. Restored leuti are rare today, mostly preserved as museum pieces or in private heritage collections.
