# Mrgar Sheep Pens

> Mrgari (singular: mrgar) are the distinctive circular drystone sheep pens of Krk's upland pastures, used historically for gathering, shearing, and sometimes overnight folding of sheep flocks. With characteristic petal-shaped or compartmentalized internal divisions and outer walls of carefully fitted stone, the mrgar represents one of the most architecturally distinctive elements of Krk's pastoral heritage and one of the more easily recognizable features of the upland agricultural landscape. The Bag plateau above Baška hosts particularly notable concentrations of mrgari, some of which are accessible to hikers and visible to anyone walking the plateau's traditional shepherding routes.
