# Salt Production Heritage on Krk

> Salt production on Krk was historically a small but significant economic activity, with shallow coastal pans producing solar-evaporated sea salt for local use and limited regional trade. Krk's salt production never reached the scale of major Adriatic salt-producing centers (Pag, Ston, Piran), but several small salt-works (solane) operated at various periods, particularly in support of fish preservation, which was the main practical use of locally-produced salt. The salt-production heritage is largely archaeological and documentary now; no working traditional salt-pan remains on Krk.
