# Stone Vernacular Architecture of Krk

> Krk's traditional architecture is overwhelmingly stone — local limestone in walls, in pavements, in field boundaries, in roofs, and in nearly every other element of historic construction. The vernacular tradition includes village houses, rural farm buildings, drystone agricultural and pastoral structures, and small-scale civic and religious buildings, all sharing a common material and a common construction logic adapted to local resources, climate, and economic activities. The tradition has weakened with modernization but remains visible across the island and constitutes one of Krk's most important heritage layers — visible to every visitor whether or not they recognize what they are seeing.
