Krk in May
Black Sheep in Baška, and the sailing fortnight begins off Punat at the month's end.
May opens the season properly. Baška's Black Sheep festival -- three days of the island's lamb, sport, culture and music -- falls on a mid-month weekend, and it has done so for twenty editions. At the month's end two things begin at once: the Punat regattas, with the Croatia Cup starting on the last Sunday and the sailing fortnight running on into June, and Krk town's own days, a fortnight of free concerts, chants and exhibitions around the feast of its patron St Quirinus on 4 June.
Beaches are open, the water is still cold, and the crowds have not arrived. For a lot of people who know the island, this is the month.
