Hiking Trails on Krk Island

Seven marked trails across Krk, all free to walk, and most of them better in spring and autumn than at the height of summer.

Krk has more walking than its reputation suggests, and all seven trails here are free. The pattern worth noticing is the season: most of these are listed for April to June and September to October rather than July and August. That is not caution about the heat alone — the island's limestone gives very little shade, and the trails that climb do it in the open.

The south has the concentration. Vela Luka and the Vršenica Canyon trail both run out of Baška, the Moon Landscape trail crosses the bare karst that gives it the name, and the Kornić to Stara Baška route links the middle of the island to the south-west coast — the longest window here, April through October.

Elsewhere, the Camino Krk trail runs through the centre, the Karst Pond nature trail is over in the west, and the Glagolitic Path at Gabonjin in the east is the only one on this list marked as walkable year-round.

Five of the seven need a car to reach the trailhead. The two that do not are both at Baška, which makes it the obvious base if walking is the reason you are coming.
