# Čižići Beach

> Čižići Beach is the quieter sibling of Meline in Soline Bay — a 200-metre sandy stretch in front of Čižići village, sharing the same therapeutic peloid mud and warm shallow water but with meaningfully fewer crowds. Local rather than international in feel, it's where Krk families settle in for the week-long mud-cure tradition.

## Opis

Čižići Beach occupies the seafront of the small Čižići village, in the north-east corner of Soline Bay just east of Klimno. It shares the same fundamentals as the famous Meline Beach two kilometres west: warm shallow water (often 28–30°C in late July), a sandy and mud-covered seabed, and the traditional peloid mud that has drawn central European repeat visitors for generations. What it lacks is the scale and the international tourist density.

The beach is a 200-metre sand-and-pebble strip with a muddy seabed for the first 10–20 metres before transitioning to firmer sand further out. The bay's eastern orientation gives Čižići morning sun and partial afternoon shade from the surrounding hill — a useful contrast to Meline's all-day exposure. Water clarity in the shallow bay is moderate (visibility 2–4 metres) due to the same shallow geometry that makes the water so warm; the trade-off is Soline's defining feature, not a flaw.

The mud-cure routine is identical to Meline's: scoop dark grey peloid mud from the bay floor, smear it over arms, legs, and torso, dry in the sun for 20–30 minutes, then rinse off in the sea or under the freshwater showers at the back of the beach. Most visitors do this once or twice a day for the full week or two of their stay. Čižići's atmosphere skews more towards local Croatian repeat visitors than Meline's mixed international crowd; you'll hear less German and more Croatian, and the small konobas behind the beach reflect that.

Facilities are basic but present: outdoor freshwater showers, two public toilets, and three small konobas / kiosks open mid-June to mid-September serving water, ice cream, beer, and grilled fish. The village of Čižići itself is right behind the beach — a small fishing-and-farming settlement with maybe 100 year-round residents, a single grocery shop, and several family-run apartments that cater specifically to mud-cure repeat visitors.

Free parking is in gravel lots along the road above the beach and on the village edge, with paths down to the beach every 100 metres. The lot capacity is generous; even on the busiest summer weekends, finding a spot rarely requires more than a 5-minute walk.

Čižići Beach is the right beach for visitors prioritising the mud-cure experience without Meline's larger scale, families looking for the warmest shallowest water on the island, and anyone seeking a more local Croatian-domestic atmosphere. It's not the right beach for clear-water swimmers or visitors expecting a polished resort feel — Soline Bay's character is unmistakably traditional and slow.

## Savjeti za posjet

- The mud will stain swimwear permanently — wear an old swimsuit you don't mind discolouring.
- Time visits around low tide for easier mud-harvesting; high tide is better for swimming.
- Bring an old towel for the post-mud sit-down while it dries in the sun.
- Rinse thoroughly under the freshwater showers before changing or driving home.
- The kiosks open mid-June to mid-September; outside that window pack provisions.
- Combine with a Klimno or Meline visit for a full Soline Bay mud-day.
- Several Čižići apartments offer week-long mud-cure packages with parking + apartment rental.

## Često postavljana pitanja

### Is Čižići's mud the same as Meline's?

Yes — they share the same Soline Bay peloid mud, the same shallow warm bay geometry, and the same folk-medicine tradition. Čižići is just smaller, quieter, and more locally-oriented; Meline is the larger and more famous of the two.

### How shallow is the water at Čižići?

Very — the bay's shallow geometry means swimming depth is reached only after walking 30+ metres from shore. This is what produces the warm water (often 28°C in late July) and what makes the bay ideal for very young children, but it limits the swimming experience for serious swimmers.

### Is parking free at Čižići?

Yes — free gravel lots run along the road above the beach and on the village edge. Capacity is generous; even peak summer weekends rarely require more than a short walk from the car to the beach.

### Are there restaurants near Čižići Beach?

Three small konobas / kiosks operate on the seafront mid-June to mid-September, serving simple grilled fish, ice cream, water, and beer. For more substantial dining, drive 5 minutes to Klimno or 15 minutes to Krk Town.

### When is the best time to visit Čižići?

Mid-July through mid-August for the full mud-cure tradition with all kiosks open and warmest water. June and September offer warm-enough water with meaningfully fewer visitors. Off-season the village is quiet and the beach is essentially empty.
