Voz Beach

Voz is the northernmost beach on Krk Island — a 650-metre quiet pebble strip in the bay just north of Omišalj, within sight of the Krk Bridge arching back to the mainland. Long, narrow, free parking, and almost no infrastructure: this is the local-favourite alternative to the busier south-island resort beaches, with the same clear Adriatic water and meaningfully fewer crowds.

Voz Beach

About

Voz Beach occupies the eastern shore of the small Voz Bay at the northernmost tip of Krk, less than 2 km from the Krk Bridge that connects the island to the mainland. The geographic setting is distinctive: from any point on the beach you can see the bridge's long arch over the channel, with the mainland mountains rising behind. This view alone draws photographers and provides a striking backdrop for a beach day.

The beach is unusually long for the island — 650 metres of pebble shoreline running along the bay's east edge — but narrow, averaging only 5 metres wide between the back of the beach and the water. The seabed is uniformly pebble out to swimming depth, gradually deepening, with very clear water — visibility on calm days commonly reaches 6–8 metres. The bay opens west, giving full afternoon and evening sun, with the surrounding low hill providing essentially no natural shade.

Facilities are absent — no showers, no toilets, no kiosk, no rental loungers. This is intentional: Voz is designated as a 'park-and-swim' beach by the local municipality, with parking provision but no commercial development. The result is a much quieter atmosphere than the south-island resort beaches even in peak summer. Most visitors are local Krk residents and a steady trickle of bridge-crossing day-trippers from Rijeka who stop for a swim on the way south.

Free parking is generous — long gravel lots run along the road behind the beach, with capacity for 100+ cars. Even in peak August the lot rarely fills before midday. Bring your own water, snacks, sunscreen, and an umbrella for shade; the nearest reliable shop is in Omišalj village (5 minutes' drive south).

The Krk Bridge view is the photographic feature, but the practical attraction is the combination of length + parking + quiet that's hard to find elsewhere on the island. Long-distance walkers can stride out 1.3 km along the beach (out and back); strong swimmers have plenty of distance for laps along the bay's protected geometry.

Voz is the right beach for first-day or last-day Krk visitors crossing the bridge, locals and travellers wanting a long quiet pebble swim with free parking, and photographers chasing the bridge view. It's not the right beach for visitors expecting amenities — for that, the larger beaches in Omišalj or further south are better choices.

Season patterns: even in peak August, Voz fills slowly through the morning and is rarely crowded — the lack of facilities filters out many tourist visitors who prefer beaches with kiosks and rentals. Local Krk residents from Omišalj and Njivice are the most consistent regulars, often arriving early for swimming exercise before the day warms up. Off-season (October to April), the beach is essentially empty but the free parking remains accessible for storm-watching photographers chasing the dramatic bura-driven waves against the bridge structure.

Tips for visiting

Frequently asked questions

How close is Voz Beach to the Krk Bridge?

Less than 2 km — the bridge is visible from any point on the beach. From the bridge toll gate, the beach is about 5 minutes' drive. This makes Voz the most logistically convenient swim for travellers crossing the bridge.

Are there any facilities at Voz?

None — no showers, toilets, kiosks, or rental loungers. The municipality designates Voz as a 'park-and-swim' beach with parking provision only. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and an umbrella; the nearest shop is in Omišalj village.

Is parking free at Voz?

Yes — long free gravel lots run along the road behind the beach, with capacity for 100+ cars. Even in peak August the lot rarely fills before midday.

Is Voz Beach safe for swimming?

Yes in normal conditions — gradual pebble entry, uniform seabed, clear water, no strong currents in the protected bay. Not lifeguarded; supervise yourself and your group. The bura wind from the north-east can chop up the surface in strong weather.

Can I anchor a boat at Voz?

Yes — the bay's centre has 5–8 m sandy bottom suitable for small-boat anchoring. The bay easily accommodates several yachts at once without crowding. Land access for swimmers is via the gravel lots; boat visitors typically stay aboard.
