Lončarica Beach
Lončarica is a 600-metre rocky coastline at the north end of Soline Bay — a boat-only stretch of limestone ledges and small pebble pockets that's one of the best snorkelling spots on Krk. The rocky margins host moray eels, octopus, and the occasional grouper; the cove's seclusion keeps it quiet even in peak summer.
Rocky · Soline Bay

About
Lončarica is the rocky shoreline running along the northern arc of Soline Bay, between Klimno on the south and the open Adriatic to the north. Unlike the sandy mud beaches of central Soline (Meline, Slanica, Čižići), Lončarica is uniformly rocky — a series of low limestone ledges and platforms broken up by small pebble pockets where you can lay a towel.
The shoreline extends about 600 metres along the bay's edge but the swimmable shore is narrow — typically 5 metres of usable space between the back-of-beach scrub and the water. There's no built infrastructure of any kind, no marked beach entry, and no signage from land. The rocky character means the seabed continues as rock and stone for 5–10 metres before transitioning to sand and seagrass further out. Water shoes are essential for entry, swimming, and getting back out.
What draws visitors is the snorkelling. The rocky margins host one of the more diverse small-fish populations on Krk: small groupers in the deeper crevices, moray eels (rarely seen but present), wrasses, and small octopus tucked into recesses. Visibility on calm days commonly reaches 8–10 metres. The seagrass beds offshore are nursery habitat for young fish and worth a longer snorkel exploration.
Getting there: by boat only. There's no land trail of any practical use. Most visitors arrive on private yachts or via boat tours from Krk Town, Punat, or Baška that include Lončarica on snorkel-tour itineraries. Anchoring is in 6–10 metres of sand and seagrass off the rocky shoreline; small boats can also tie up to the rocky outcrops in calm weather.
There are no facilities at all. No fresh water, no toilets, no food, no shade. Bring everything for the day, plan to leave by sunset, and pack out all rubbish. The lack of amenities is exactly what keeps Lončarica from getting overrun.
Lončarica is the right beach for snorkellers based anywhere on Krk who want the best small-fish habitat on the island, sailors anchoring in Soline Bay for a day's swimming, and visitors on organised boat tours with Lončarica on the itinerary. It's not appropriate for land-based visitors with young children, anyone uncomfortable swimming over rocky seabed, or visitors expecting beach amenities.
The surrounding bay's character is quieter than Krk's open-coast snorkel spots: Soline Bay's enclosed geometry produces calmer water for snorkelling than Oprna or Vela Luka on the south coast, but visibility is similar. The trade-off is fewer dramatic underwater rock structures (the bay's seabed is gentler) but more consistent fish life thanks to the seagrass nursery beds. Repeat visitors typically combine Lončarica snorkelling with afternoon mud-cure visits at Meline or Slanica for a complete Soline Bay day.

Tips for visiting
- Bring snorkel gear — Lončarica is the best snorkelling on Krk thanks to the rocky margins and seagrass beds.
- Water shoes are essential for entry on the rocky shoreline.
- No facilities at all: pack water, snacks, sunscreen, and a rubbish bag.
- Best on calm days when visibility peaks at 10+ metres.
- The seagrass nursery offshore is worth a longer snorkel exploration — fish concentrations are much higher there than on the open rocky shore.
- For a longer day, combine with the Soline mud beaches (Meline, Slanica, Čižići) — boat tours often include both stops.
Frequently asked questions
Can I reach Lončarica on foot?
No — there's no practical land trail. Boat access is the only way in. Either arrive by private boat, on an organised snorkel-tour boat from Krk Town/Punat/Baška, or on the irregular taxi-boat service from Klimno harbour.
Why is Lončarica good for snorkelling?
The rocky margins host one of the more diverse small-fish populations on Krk — wrasses, small groupers, octopus, and (rarely) moray eels. Visibility on calm days commonly reaches 8–10 metres. The seagrass beds offshore are nursery habitat with even higher fish concentrations.
Are there any facilities at Lončarica?
None at all. No fresh water, toilets, food, shade, or shower. Bring everything for the day, plan to leave by sunset, and pack out all rubbish. The lack of amenities is exactly what keeps the bay quiet and the snorkelling pristine.
How much does a boat tour to Lončarica cost?
Organised snorkel tours from Krk Town, Punat, and Baška that include Lončarica run €30–50 per person depending on tour length and operator. Book via local tourist offices or directly at the harbours; advance booking recommended in peak summer.
Is Lončarica safe for swimming?
Yes for confident swimmers comfortable in rocky-seabed water. Water shoes are essential for entry and exit. The bay is protected from open-Adriatic swells. There's no lifeguard service; supervise yourself and your group. Not appropriate for very young children given the rocky terrain.
