Valica Beach

Valica is a 300-metre quieter mixed beach further west along Malinska's coastline, beyond Vantačići and approaching the more secluded coves. Three surfaces in one cove — pebble central section, concrete platforms at the eastern end, rocky ledges at the western end — combined with no commercial development and the same crystal-clear western Adriatic water as the busier central Malinska beaches.

Valica Beach

About

Valica Beach occupies a small bay on the western edge of the Malinska coastline, beyond Vantačići village and approaching the wilder coves of the western coast. The shoreline is genuinely mixed in three sections: fine pebble in the central area, concrete platforms at the eastern end (legacy of an old hotel that operated here decades ago), and rocky ledges and platforms at the western end opening towards the open sea.

The seabed is uniformly pebble out to swimming depth in the central section, transitioning to rocky margins towards the western end. Water clarity is excellent thanks to the western Adriatic position and the lack of commercial development to stir up sediment — visibility on calm days commonly reaches 6–8 metres. The bay faces north-west, giving full afternoon and evening sun, with sunset visible from the western rocky end.

Facilities are absent. No kiosks, no rental loungers, no formal toilets or showers. The lack of vehicle access (no parking) keeps commercial development out, which is exactly what keeps the bay quiet. Most visitors arrive on foot from Vantačići village (10 minutes' walk along the coastal path) or by bike from central Malinska (15 minutes).

Valica is the right beach for visitors based in Malinska wanting a quieter alternative to busy central beaches, photographers chasing sunset light from the rocky western end, and snorkellers seeking the rocky margins for small-fish habitat. It's not the right beach for visitors expecting amenities or families with very young children given the lack of facilities.

Practical season notes: peak July through mid-August brings 30–50 visitors at the busiest hours, mostly day-trippers from central Malinska who have walked or cycled out. June and September are noticeably quieter with often fewer than 10 visitors at any time. Off-season the beach is essentially solo. The walk from Vantačići along the coastal path is pleasant in itself, passing several other small unnamed coves that knowledgeable hikers can drop into for even quieter swims. The path is well-worn but unmarked beyond Valica; visitors continuing west should bring water and watch the time to ensure they can return before sunset.

The broader western coast of Malinska beyond Valica becomes increasingly wild — a series of small unnamed coves, low Mediterranean scrub, and dirt tracks that connect on foot but require knowledge to navigate. Valica marks the practical transition point from Malinska's developed seafront to the wilder west coast; visitors willing to walk further can find smaller coves with even fewer visitors.
