Dog Beach (Njivice)

Dog Beach in Njivice is a small standalone 75-metre dog-friendly cove on Krk's western coast — a separate facility from the dog-friendly section attached to nearby Kijac. The smaller scale, freshwater rinse shower, free parking, and a deliberately quiet local-walking-route atmosphere make it the most relaxed dog-and-owner option in the Njivice area for visitors travelling with pets.

Dog Beach (Njivice)

About

Dog Beach Njivice sits in a small protected cove on the western coast just south of Njivice village. It's one of two officially designated dog-friendly facilities in Njivice (the other being the dog-friendly section attached to Kijac, the village's main beach). The two work as complementary options: Kijac's dog section is convenient for visitors who want full beach amenities with their dog access; Dog Beach Njivice is the standalone option for those who prefer a quieter, smaller environment.

The beach is fine pebble — about 75 metres long and 6 metres wide at average depth — set in a small cove sheltered from the dominant winds by the surrounding shoreline geometry. The seabed is uniform pebble out to swimming depth, comfortable for dog paws and human feet alike. Water clarity is good (visibility 4–6 metres in normal conditions). The orientation gives morning and early-afternoon sun on the water itself, with partial shade developing across the back of the beach by late afternoon — a useful detail for thick-coated dogs in summer.

Facilities are deliberately minimal but functional: a freshwater rinse shower at the back of the beach for dogs and owners after swimming, and a dog-bag dispenser at the entrance. There are no kiosks, no rental loungers, and no formal toilets — the design intent is a low-density dog-walking beach rather than a tourist beach. Most visitors are local Njivice residents with their dogs; the international tourist crowd skews towards the larger Kijac instead.

Responsible behaviour is required: dogs must be under control (lead optional but voice control essential), owners must clean up, and aggressive dogs should leave. Local municipal patrols visit occasionally to check compliance; the local culture is largely self-regulating thanks to the regular-visitor community.

Free parking is in a small gravel lot 50 metres from the beach. The lot fits maybe 15 cars and rarely fills — most visitors are walking from elsewhere in Njivice village. The beach is a 5-minute walk from central Njivice along the coastal path.

Dog Beach Njivice is the right beach for travellers visiting Krk with a dog who want a quieter alternative to Kijac's mixed-use dog section, local residents on daily dog walks, and anyone wanting a low-density dog-friendly facility. It's not the right beach for a long beach day with non-dog companions — pair it with Kijac (Tier-1) for a mixed-group day where everyone gets time on a beach that suits them.

Tips for visiting

Frequently asked questions

Is Dog Beach Njivice the same as Kijac?

No — they're two separate dog-friendly facilities in the Njivice area. Kijac (Tier-1) is the larger main beach with a dog-friendly section attached. Dog Beach Njivice is a separate smaller standalone cove with no human-tourist amenities, just dog-walking infrastructure.

Are dogs required to be on a lead?

Lead is optional but voice control is essential. Aggressive or nervous dogs are best kept on lead. Local convention: well-behaved dogs off lead are welcome; uncontrolled dogs disrupt the relaxed atmosphere and may be asked to leave.

Is there parking at Dog Beach Njivice?

Yes — free gravel parking lot about 50 metres from the beach, capacity around 15 cars. The lot rarely fills since most visitors are walking from elsewhere in Njivice village.

What facilities does Dog Beach have?

A freshwater rinse shower at the back of the beach for cleaning off salt after swimming, and a dog-bag dispenser at the entrance. No human kiosks, toilets, or rental loungers — by design, to keep the atmosphere low-density and dog-focused.

Can I bring multiple dogs?

Yes, with the same expectations: under control, cleaned up after, and not aggressive towards other dogs. The small size of the cove means 3–4 dogs at peak hours can feel busy; respect the space of other visitors and their dogs.
