Pod Crnice Beach
Pod Crnice is a 130-metre boat-only pebble cove south of Vrbnik on Krk's east coast — clear Adriatic water, complete seclusion, and a setting framed by limestone cliffs. The combination of boat-only access and the lack of any infrastructure keeps it off all tourist circuits, leaving the bay essentially untouched even in peak summer.

About
Pod Crnice (literally 'under the black cliffs') sits in a small protected cove on the east coast of Krk, south of Vrbnik in the stretch of coastline between Vrbnik and the larger Potovošće bay (Tier-1). The cove is reachable only by boat — there's no land trail of any practical use, and the cliffs above are sheer enough to discourage casual scrambling.
The shoreline is fine pebble — about 130 metres long and 8 metres wide at average depth — set beneath dark limestone cliffs that give the cove its name. The pebble continues as the seabed, gradually deepening to swimming depth within 5 metres of shore. Water clarity is excellent thanks to the cove's small enclosed geometry and the absence of any swimmer-stirred sediment — visibility on calm mornings commonly reaches 9–10 metres.
There are no facilities at all. Bring everything: water, snacks, sunscreen, snorkel gear, a bag for your rubbish. Most visitors arrive on private boats from Vrbnik harbour, on organised boat tours from Punat or Krk Town that include Pod Crnice on snorkel-tour itineraries, or via a taxi-boat arranged in advance from Vrbnik.
Getting there: boat access only. Anchoring is in 5–8 metres of pebble bottom in the bay's centre; the small size limits the cove to 2–3 yachts at once without crowding. Boat-tour operators include Pod Crnice on east-coast snorkel-tour itineraries from Punat and Krk Town (€30–50 per person).
The wider character of this stretch of east-coast Krk: dramatic limestone cliffs rising 30–60 metres above the waterline, a series of small unnamed coves between the named ones, and the open Vinodol channel visible across to the mainland. The combination of dramatic geology, clear water, and complete absence of development makes the area one of Krk's most scenic for boat-based exploration.
Pod Crnice is the right beach for sailors anchored in the area, visitors on east-coast boat tours, and anyone wanting the wild-cove experience without committing to a long hike. It's not accessible to land-based visitors — anyone planning a beach day from a hotel needs to arrange boat transport in advance. Snorkellers should bring their own gear and budget at least 90 minutes for the rocky-margin exploration.
For sailors, Pod Crnice is part of a natural east-coast circuit: anchor first at Pod Crnice for clear-water snorkelling, move 1.5 km south to Potovošće for the more sheltered swim, then continue another 2 km south to Mala Plaža Vrbnik for an afternoon stop. The full route can be done in a half-day with a single tank of fuel from Vrbnik harbour.

Frequently asked questions
Can I hike to Pod Crnice?
No — the cliffs above the cove are too sheer for any practical land trail. Boat access is the only option: private boat, organised boat tour from Punat / Krk Town, or arranged taxi-boat from Vrbnik harbour.
How much does a taxi-boat to Pod Crnice cost?
Around €20–30 per person round trip from Vrbnik harbour, with arranged pickup time for the return. Ask at the harbour kiosk or in advance via Vrbnik's tourist office.
Why is it called Pod Crnice?
Literally 'under the black cliffs' in Croatian — the dark limestone cliffs framing the cove are the source of the name. The dark colour comes from the iron-rich rock formation typical of Krk's east coast.
Are there any facilities at Pod Crnice?
None at all. No fresh water, toilets, food, or shade. Bring everything for the day including a bag for your rubbish. Most boat visitors plan around the boat schedule for any extended needs.
Is Pod Crnice good for snorkelling?
Yes — the rocky margins of the cove host small fish life and the visibility is excellent (9–10 metres on calm mornings). Bring your own gear; the snorkel-tour operators provide gear for guests but private visitors arrive equipped.
