Sv. Marek
Sv. Marek is a quiet sand-and-pebble beach near the small village of Risika on Krk's eastern coast, well away from the main tourist circuit. The shallow entry, calm bay, and free roadside parking make it a local favourite for families with very young children who want to skip the crowds at Baška.

About
Sv. Marek (named after the small chapel of St. Mark above the bay) is the kind of beach you find by accident, then keep coming back to. It sits in a quiet inlet on the east coast of Krk, about 4 km north of Vrbnik and equally far south of Šilo. There's no village right at the beach — just the chapel, a few stone houses, and a small kiosk that opens irregularly in summer.
The beach is a mix of fine sand and small pebbles, with a sandy seabed that drops gradually for about 30 metres before reaching swimming depth. Water clarity is excellent thanks to the bay's protected geometry — even on windy days, the cove stays calm. The eastern orientation gives it morning and midday sun; by late afternoon the surrounding pine-clad hill puts most of the beach in shade. Water temperatures track the eastern Krk pattern: 22°C by mid-June, peaking around 25–26°C in early August, still pleasant into early October.
Facilities are minimal but functional. There's a single outdoor shower at the back of the beach, two basic toilets in a small cabin, and the seasonal kiosk for water, ice cream, and beer when it's open. Don't count on the kiosk — bring your own provisions, especially if you're staying past midday. The nearest reliable food + drinks shop is in Vrbnik, 4 km south.
The surrounding area is the agricultural heart of eastern Krk: small olive groves, vineyards growing the Žlahtina grape (the local white wine), and pasture for the sheep that produce Krk's distinctive aged cheese. Several producers in the area run informal tastings — ask at the konobas in Vrbnik for current introductions. Risika village itself, half a kilometre inland, has a 12th-century church and a handful of stone houses but minimal commercial infrastructure.
The chapel of St. Mark above the beach is worth a 5-minute walk uphill. It's a small whitewashed structure with a tiled roof, locked outside the saint's day on April 25th but pleasant for the views over the bay and the channel beyond. The chapel's bells, when they ring, can be heard down at the beach.
This is the right beach for travellers who want a calm Adriatic swim without the crowd or the rental loungers. It's especially good for families with toddlers thanks to the very gentle entry. It's not the right beach if you want amenities, beach bars, or water sports — for that, head to Baška or Punat.
