Zgribnica Beach
Zgribnica is Vrbnik's main bathing beach — a compact 120-metre pebble cove tucked beneath the dramatic cliffs of the historic clifftop town above. The combination of clear Adriatic water, the medieval Vrbnik stonework looking down on you, and decent beach bar amenities makes it one of the most photogenic swims on Krk's eastern coast.

About
Zgribnica sits in the small bay directly below Vrbnik's clifftop old town. The beach is mixed: roughly 120 metres of fine pebble shoreline interrupted by concrete bathing platforms at the eastern end. The seabed is uniformly pebble out to swimming depth, gradually deepening, with very clear water — visibility commonly 6–8 metres on calm days.
The view defines the experience. From the water, you look up at the medieval town wall of Vrbnik perched on a 50-metre limestone cliff. The town was first documented in the 12th century and is famous as the historical home of Glagolitic script (one of the original Slavic alphabets) and of Žlahtina, Krk's distinctive white wine grown in the surrounding valleys. The town's narrowest street, Klančić, is reputed to be one of the narrowest in the world at less than 50 cm wide — visiting it before or after a Zgribnica swim is the standard tourist itinerary.
Facilities are good for the size: showers, toilets, changing rooms, a beach bar with light food and drinks, and rental sun loungers + umbrellas. Lifeguards are not formally posted but the bay is small and calm; the beach bar staff keep an eye on the water in normal hours. Water quality has held Blue Flag status for years and is monitored monthly through summer.
Access from the town above is via a steep path down — a 5-minute descent, 10 minutes back up. There's also a road that wraps around the cliff to a small parking lot near the beach itself, sparing visitors the climb. From the parking it's about 200 metres on foot. Most visitors driving to Vrbnik for the day combine: park near the old town for sightseeing, walk through the historic centre, descend the cliff path to Zgribnica for an afternoon swim, then climb back up for dinner at a clifftop konoba as the sun sets over the channel.
The Žlahtina wine connection is worth elaborating on: the Vrbnik valley behind the town is one of the few places in the world where this specific grape is grown commercially. Several producers in and around the village offer cellar visits and tastings — Šipun, Toljanić, and Katunar are the better-known names. A typical tasting includes 4–6 wines plus a small selection of local cheese and pršut for €15–25 per person.
Zgribnica is the right beach if you're visiting Vrbnik town and want to combine sightseeing with a swim. It's not the right beach for big groups or full beach days — the cove is small enough that 50 visitors makes it feel busy.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get from Vrbnik old town to Zgribnica beach?
A marked steep path descends from the western edge of the old town walls — 5 minutes down, 10 minutes back up. The alternative is to drive around to the seafront parking lot and walk 200 metres.
Is Zgribnica a sandy beach?
No, it's fine pebble with concrete bathing platforms at the eastern end. The seabed is also pebble. Water shoes are recommended for comfort.
Is parking available at Zgribnica?
Yes, a paid lot at the seafront (~€3/hour in season) about 200 metres from the beach. The lot is small and fills early in peak summer.
Is Zgribnica suitable for children?
Yes — gradual pebble entry, calm bay, small cove. The trade-off is no formal lifeguard. The path down from the old town is too steep for strollers; use the seafront parking for prams.
What can I combine with a Zgribnica beach visit?
Vrbnik old town walking tour (medieval streets, the Glagolitic museum), lunch at one of the cliff-top konobas, and a Žlahtina wine tasting at one of the cellars in the surrounding valleys.
